I've finally hit the "approve" button on my submission to CD Baby! Running On Grace is now officially in the queue for digital distribution, and could show up on iTunes in as little as a few days or a week.
I had been emailing back and forth with CD Baby reps to get answers to some of my questions, which is why it took me so long to approve. One of the things I struggled with was deciding on which genre to put myself into. "Alternative" seemed like the best broad category to use, but CD Baby did not have this available. So the next best thing I chose was "Rock" for main category, and "Adult Alternative Pop/Rock" for sub category. I was very uncertain about whether I could be categorized as "Rock" though, and worried that listeners browsing for rock songs would be disappointed by all but one of my songs. But I had some reassurance from a couple people that my songs were closer to Rock than the other options such as Pop. And then, a CD Baby rep responded that my main + sub category combo would put me as "Alternative" in iTunes, so that was a relief. It felt super good to hit that "Approve" button!
I also signed up for SOCAN today, and am now waiting for the contracts that I have to sign. Making music is a lot of work, and so is releasing it!
