I am FINALLY ready to release this thing in the next couple of weeks! A brief recap of all that ensued since my last update:
- The second song for which I re-tracked vocals was completed in August at Jason's studio. This unfortunately happened at the same time that I was suffering from throat problems due to acid reflux (which I'm still not healed from, by the way; need to take medication for several months and then I'll try to taper off the meds). It was seriously a miracle that I was able to get in some good, usable vocals towards the end of the session.
- Before and after re-tracking the above song, Jason and I expended looooots of time and energy on the vocal mixes. I am a rather obsessed perfectionist...but thankfully, so is Jason so I think he understood. He didn't complain anyway :)
- With much relief on my part, there were far fewer revisions in the mastering stage with Brock McFarlane (although more than the average person I think; we had 4-5 rounds of changes). The mastering was completed at the end of November.
- My computer hard drive crashed on me back in September. All my important files were backed up, so I got a new hard drive installed and all was well. Until, that is, 3 weeks ago when I went to retrieve all the CD artwork I designed and discovered that I had not backed up any of it. That really, REALLY sucked. And I still have no idea why on earth I didn't back it up. I thought I had - I mean, I'm usually careful with these types of "irreplaceable" files. So I re-did everything from scratch. I've got 3 of 4 pages complete, hoping to finish the last page soon! I'm no longer printing hard copies, but I'm making these pages into a digital booklet.
After finishing the digital booklet, the only things left to do would be:
- sign up with SOCAN
- sign up with distributing partner for iTunes
- possibly design a header for my Bandcamp page
- release on iTunes and Bandcamp
- update website (potentially extend/fix up one of the videos on the video page)
- pretty up my Youtube channel
- sometime next spring/summer, plan a release party. I'm not going to do it now because:
a) I really need a break from this
b) My throat is not yet healed
c) I have a lot of other things going in my life that I'd like to focus on
d) the Christmas season is too busy for me to be planning a release party
Aside from the release party, this should all be happening in the next 1-2 weeks, so stay tuned!
